One Province, One Mobile Blood Bus Project
“NRNA’s Quality Project for Nepal”
Introduction:
The One Province, One Mobile Blood Bus Project is a quality enhancement initiative led by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) to strengthen blood transfusion services across Nepal. Since its inception, this project has successfully facilitated the handover of five mobile blood buses to various provinces, significantly improving blood management and accessibility.
For the 2023-25 tenure, NRNA ICC (International Coordination Council) has committed to expanding this project to Gandaki Province, Karnali Province, and Kathmandu Valley (Bagmati Province). This initiative is led by NRNA Vice-President Mr. Robin Sherchan, with guidance from NRNA’s PHA Department Head and Vice-President Dr. Hem Raj Sharma.
Objectives:
The objectives of the Mobile Blood Bus Project are as follows:

- Enhance the accessibility and quality of blood transfusion services.
- Encourage blood donation and ensure donor retention.
- Overcome climatic barriers to blood collection and supply.
- Establish alternative blood banks for disaster preparedness.

3.1.1 Gandaki Province (2025)

3.1.2 Koshi Province (2022)
Tripartite agreements were made between NRNA, NRCS Sunsari District Chapter, and Dharan Sub-Metropolitan for the Mobile Blood Bus Koshi Province Project on 2nd February 2022. A mobile blood bus has been handed over to the Dharan Red Cross Society in Koshi Province. This bus, operated by the Sunsari District Branch’s Blood Transfusion Service Center.
3.1.3 Madhesh Province (2022)
Tripartite agreements were made between NRNA, NRCS (Nepal Red Cross Society) Dhanusa District Chapter, and Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan for the Mobile Blood Bus Madhesh Province Project on 1st December 2022. In madesh Province mobile blood bus has been handed over to the Nepal Red Cross Society in Dhanusha. This initiative aims to enhance the blood transfusion services in the region.
3.1.4 Lumbini Province (2023)
Tripartite agreements were made between NRNA, NRCS Banke District Chapter, and Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan for the Mobile Blood Bus Lumbini Province Project on 5 June 2023. In Lumbini Province, a mobile blood bus has been handed over to the Nepal Red Cross Society’s Regional Blood Transfusion Service in Nepalgunj.
3.1.5 Bagmati Province (2022)
A mobile blood bus was handed over to the Chitwan Blood Transfusion Center in Bagmati Province on December 19, 2020, through an initiative led by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). This project aims to enhance blood collection efforts in the region, ensuring that sufficient blood supplies are available for patients in need. The mobile blood bus is equipped with modern facilities to facilitate efficient blood donation drives and promote community participation in this vital healthcare initiative.
3.1.6 Far western Province (2022)
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has handed over a blood collection bus to the Nepal Red Cross Society, Kailali, through the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City. The bus, valued at 6 million rupees, was jointly handed over by NRNA President Kumar Pant to Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Nrip Bahadur Wad and Red Cross Chairman Uttam Joshi. The bus handover program is based on a tripartite agreement. Under this agreement, the NRNA will be informed about the operational procedures of the bus, the maintenance and other responsibilities will be handled by the metropolitan city, and the complete responsibility for operating the bus will be taken by the Kailali Red Cross.
