Over the past two decades, Nepali workers have been traveling overseas for employment in increasingly large numbers. It is estimated that close to 1,500 people leave the country every day for employment abroad, with an estimated 3.5 million—out of a total population of 27 million Nepalese working and residing in Gulf countries and East Asia. Accompanying this trend, cases of migrant workers suffering from labour exploitation, human trafficking, and financial distress due to debt incurred in relation to migration have been on the rise.
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) is deeply concerned by the plight of Nepali labor migrants abroad. Since our establishment in 2003, we have been working to support prospective migrant workers as well as those already working abroad through our 73 chapters across the world. Through its chapters abroad, NRNA engages in support and rescue activities in case of emergencies.
However, a lack appropriate accessible information on specific details of migration processes and services creates substantial vulnerability and risk remains a fundamental cause of Nepali migrant workers’ current plight. To address this challenge, Shuvayatra, the mobile app. launched, leverages the single most powerful device possessed by the majority of migrant workers: their mobile phones.
Through the app, migrants can access critical information and resources they need to stay safe in working environments that are often dangerous, abusive and illegal. The app combines written, audio and video content to provide migrant workers with very specific, actionable information on each stage of the migration process, and country-specific guidance initially for Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. By giving users clear and understandable explanations of the migration process, prospective migrants can use Shuvayatra to make more informed decisions and avoid unnecessary risks.
The Asia Foundation has funded for the Shuvayatra project; and together with NRNA and its affiliations is going to implement it. Young Innovations has developed the mobile app and is to be continuously developed and upgraded.
The Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Deepak Bohara along with the NRNA President, Dr. Shesh Ghale, Country Representative of TAF and Migrant workers launched the app. Present in the occasion were NRNA representatives, the migrant workers, migration and information technology experts and people associated with the migrant workers.

मोबाईल एप शुभारम्भ !
विदेशमा रोजगारका लागि नेपालबाट गत् दुई दशक देखी नेपाली कामदारहरु वैदेशिक रोजगारका लागि मुख्यतया मध्यपूर्वका मुलुकहरुमा जाने गरेका र यो क्रम हालमा आएर बढ्दो छ । अनुमानित करीब एक हजार पाँचसय मानिसहरु प्रत्येक दिन नेपालबाट वैदेशिक रोजगारका लागि विभिन्न मुलुकहरुमा गईरहेका छन् । कूल जनसंख्या मध्ये ३५ लाख मानिसहरु खाडि मुलुक तथा पूर्वी एशियामा वैदेशिक रोजगार अन्तर्गत कार्यरत छन् । वैदेशिक रोजगारमा जाने यी नेपाली कामदारहरु प्रस्थानको तयारीको समय र गन्तव्य मुलुकमा गईुसके पछि विभिन्न मानवीय, सामाजिक, मनोवैज्ञानिक, आर्थिकका साथै अन्य समस्याहरुबाट पीडित भईरहेका छन् ।
गैरआवासीय नेपाली संघले आफ्नो स्थापना काल देखी नै आफ्ना बिभिन्न राष्ट्रिय समन्वय परिषदहरु तथा कार्यदल गठन गरेर वैदेशिक रोजगारको क्षेत्रलाई मर्यादित, व्यवस्थित र सुरक्षित बनाउने तर्फ बिभिन्न क्रियाकलमहरु संचालन गर्दै विदेशमा आपतमा परेका र मृत्यु भएका व्यक्तिहरुलाई सहयोग र उद्धार गर्दै आएको छ ।
अप्रयाप्त तथा अपूर्ण सूचनाहरुका कारण वैदेशिक रोजगारमा गएकाहरु बिभिन्न समस्याहरुमा परेका र जोखिमपूर्ण अवस्थामा फसेका छन् । यसै शिलसिलामा वैदेशिक रोजगारमा जाने व्यक्तिहरुलाई वैदेशिक रोजगार सम्बन्धि अत्यआवश्यक जरुरी सूचनाहरु सरल र सहज तरिकाबाट उपलब्ध गराउने यो एपको उदेश्य रहेको छ । यस यापको माध्यमबाट लिखित रुपमा तथा ध्वनी र श्रव्यको माध्यबाट वैदेशिक रोजगारीमा जानको लागि आवश्यक प्रकृयागत कार्यहरु तथा सम्बन्धित निकायहरुकाबारेमा अवगत गराउनुका साथै प्रथम चरणमा मलेसिया, कतार र साउदी अरबबारे जान्न पर्ने केहि कुराहरु समेत समावेश गरिएको छ ।
एशिया फाउण्डसनको अनुदनामा योंग इनोभेसनको प्राविधिक सहयोगमा मोबाईल एपको बिकास गरिएको हो । यस एपको संचलनमा एशिया फाउण्डसन तथा गैरआवासीय नेपाली संघको सहकार्य रहनेछ तथा यस एपको निरन्तर बिकास र परिमार्जन गरिनेछ ।
यसको शुभराम्भ आज माननीय श्रम तथा रोगार मन्त्री श्री दीपक बोहराको प्रमुख आतिथ्यतामा होटेल र्याडिसनमा भएको छ । जसमा नेपाल सरकार, एशिया फाउण्डेसन, योंग इनोभेसन, वैदेशिक रोजगारमा कार्यरत व्यक्तिहरु, सरोकारवाल अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय तथा राष्ट्रिय संघ संस्थाहरु, संचारकर्मीहरुका साथै गैरआवासीय नेपाली संघका अध्यक्ष डा. शेष घले, उपाध्यक्ष भवन भट्ट, हाल नेपालमा रहनु भएका आइसिसिका पदाधिकारी तथा सदस्यहरु, तथा गैरआवासीय नेपाली संघ तथा वैदेशिक रोजगारीमा आवद्ध व्यक्तिहरुको सहभागीता रहेको थियो ।
